Pension for child care to one million Finns

By year-end 2019, a total of 930,000 Finns had accrued pension for periods of child care. The figures are revealed in the advance notice of the statistics of the Finnish Centre for Pensions.

A1 certificates transferred electronically between EU countries

Finland will participate in the electronic exchange of social security information (EESSI) between EU countries in September, starting with information regarding posted workers. The new information system will speed up the sending of A1 certificates from one country to another. The introduction of the new technology may cause temporary delays in the handling of the applications.

To extend these workers’ working lives, relying on their own responsibility or implementing more government policies alone will not be enough: the help of employers is needed.

The withdrawal agreement includes a transition period until the end of 2020. Until then, EU’s current regulations will prevail.

Continuing under current EU regulations means, among other things, that a worker posted to Britain can be issued an A1 certificate. Earnings-related pensions are also paid to Britain as usual, and pensions earned in Britain are paid to Finland under EU regulations.
